What does it cost? That’s the question we most often get when companies are considering investing in video production. It’s tempting to say “it depends,” but here we’ll try to make it more concrete. There are many factors that affect price and budget. A video can be made in so many ways and for many different purposes. It can cost anything from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand, and even millions. It all depends on the ambitions.
We have developed a price calculator to give you an indication of how much your project might cost, but first, let’s take a look at what actually affects the price of video production.
1. The hours used.
One of the most obvious cost drivers in video production is the number of working hours spent on the project. The more time required to complete it, the higher the cost. This includes hours spent on preparation, filming, editing, and possibly casting.
2. The complexity of the project.
How advanced is your video? Does the project involve planning before filming, or is it simply a matter of showing up and shooting? Are there special effects, advanced editing, graphics, or other technical elements — and will we need to hire actors, extras, or locations, or can we solve it in another way? The more advanced the project, the more time and resources it requires, and that will affect the price.
3. Additions in editing.
Music, graphics, subtitles, voice-over, and other additional services can affect the cost. If the video is to be published on multiple channels, it should be edited in several formats and perhaps both long and short versions. These additions can make your video even more impressive, but they will also have an impact on the budget.
4. Planning and creativity.
Sometimes video production requires extra planning hours to prepare camera techniques, transitions, or other creative cinematic elements. Maybe we also need to use some special equipment?
5. Resources, equipment, and logistics.
When points 1–4 are mapped out, we have a good overview and can determine how many resources from our team the project will require, which equipment will be used or rented, and plan transport and logistics accordingly.
